Surgery
Well, after extensive testing and thoughtful prayer, we decided that Ty needed surgery. He has severe reflux which contributes to him stopping breathing. His esophagus doesn't move the food done his throat very well either. The best course of action is to give him a trach and a GJ tube. The trach will protect his airway from collapse and should prevent him from stopping breathing. The GJ tube will allow us to feed him directly from the tube, but it will bypass the stomach and go right into the intestines. Bypassing the stomach will keep down the reflux since there will be nothing in the stomach to spit up. The surgeon who did the trach and the other surgeon who did the G-tube for Ben did the trach an GJ tube for Ty. Ty had surgery on October 2, and is recovering very well. Here is the pre and post op pictures.

I'm so sorry to hear that Ty has stopped breathing so much. That must be pretty scary when it happens. I'm impressed that you have been able to revive him every time with CPR. I'm glad that the surgery went well and hope that he recovers well and that the Trach helps his breathing. We continue to pray for you guys and hope that you are doing well.

Beth,
It's cousin Anna. How have you been? Luke called me tonight and we talked a bit. He gave me his family blog link (and then I skipped on over to yours).
Gosh, we have a lot in common. My boys didn't have the breathing issues, but they both had feeding issues- couldn't nurse, and all that.
I'd love to chat sometime with you. You guys have been through a lot. Your kids are so beautiful! You're down in Cali right? We are in Provo. James went back to school this past fall to get his MBA at BYU. We love it here.
Here's our blog if you want to check in: www.fowlerfam.blogspot.com
Hope you are well! Sincerely, Anna
